The shell is marine-grade unsaturated polyester resin with chopped strand mat and woven roving, laid up by hand over a welded steel internal armature. A UV-stable gelcoat sits under an automotive-grade polyurethane topcoat, which is what gives the set its 10 to 30+ year outdoor service life in most US climates.
